Welcome back! I hope you have had an enjoyable Easter break and also made the most of the long bank holiday weekend. It doesn’t seem long at all until the May half term therefore some topics will run over into the 2ndpart of the Summer term.
Our main topic for the Summer term has a Science focus, ‘Earth, Sun and Moon’. We will begin with what we already know about Space and the Solar System and move onto finding out more about ‘Outer Space’! Our trip to The Science Museum will be later in the term, and the children will have the opportunity to talk with an astronaut character, who will play the first person into space.
This half term in Literacy we will be focusing on our Film Narrative unit and looking at the works of Raymond Briggs. We will end the year with a ‘Persuasive writing’ topic in which we will collect and identify different writing techniques and use them in drafting and writing our own persuasive texts in pairs and individually.
Our RE Topic this term will be on ‘Pentecost’, and children will be able to use their drama skills to help them access this theme. We will be learning about the importance of ‘Relationships’ in PSHE and be designing our own information pages about a topic of our own choice using ICT and the Publisher programme.
Miss Atkinson will teach music to the children on Thursday afternoon, and will tie her lessons into our Film Narrative Literacy lessons.
PE will continue on a Monday afternoon as well as a specialist coach teaching the children on Wednesday afternoons. This half term, homework will be sent out on Friday and must be handed in on Wednesday. Homework will be given out today (25th April) and continue until the May half term. To replace weekly homework in the last half term of the year, a whole school homework project will be set. More details will follow later in the term.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns. Many thanks for your continued support during this year.
