Year 1

Summer Term 1.



Our learning this half term is ‘Plants’ and we will be using the traditional tale of
'Jack and the Beanstalk' to help and support our learning

We are looking at an artist called 

Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

He was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books.




We are looking at 2D shapes
We learning their names and also how to identify them according to their properties. Why not see if you can discover what these hidden shapes are?
Phonics and High Frequency words.
We are following Letters and Sounds during our phonic sessions. Here are some great websites and games to help you with your phonic sounds and high frequency words.

Autumn term 1 we were using the book

by Mini Grey to help us with our learning.

We can name and label different parts of our bodies. What parts of your body can you name?

Art - Portraits
On Tuesday 2nd October, we visited the National Portrait Gallery to investigate and discuss portraits from a wide range of artist. We had a wonderful visit and have gain lots of new ideas which we can add to our own portraits. Have a look at the photos below and why not try these portrait games.



A big thank you to James, who came in to show us how to turn an everyday object into a character. We hope to use this characters when writing our own Traction Man Story.

Our literacy book to support our topic this term is

Fairy Tales - The Ugly Duckling

A fledgeling hactches to be the oddest in his flock ducks. He is taunted and he's hurt until one fine day he finds birds of his own kind...The Ugly Duckling is one of the most popular stories by Hans Christian Anderson!

This term we are looking at seasonal and weather changes. As part of this topic we are also focusing on the environmental artist 'Andy Goldworthy'. Keep your eye out for some of our art work inspired by him.

We are using 'Percy the Park Keeper' books
this term to help us with our learning


We will be focusing on our local environment, in particular Ruskin Park and Loughborough Junction 
before comparing them with a village setting.

This is an animation I made during my second year at University studying BA (Hons) Modelmaking at the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester. I made all of the sets, props and characters as well as photographing and editing the whole animation. Hope you enjoy :)
