Key Learning Question: What would a plant put on it’s wish list?

Scientific Enquiry Focus: Observe changes over time

In this unit we will learn about what plants need to survive and grow. We will investigate this by planting seeds in different locations and with different conditions to observe over time. Through close observation, we will learn how to identify when a plant is healthy and unhealthy. We will learn about germination then look at different types of seeds and find out how they germinate by dissecting one. We will find out about the stages of a plant's lifecycle and be able to explain how it changes as it grows. Finally, we'll look at plants in different habitats and explain how different plants are suited to their habitat.

By the end of the topic pupils should be able to:

  • observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants
  • find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy
