The events leading up to the war, students explore the key factors that contributed to the outbreak of conflict, such as the Treaty of Versailles and the policy of appeasement.

They then delve into the experiences of civilians during the war, learning about the measures taken to keep people safe, like evacuation and air raid shelters, as well as the challenges of rationing and growing their own food.

The unit also examines the critical role played by the Home Front, with women, children, and the elderly supporting the war effort in various ways.

Finally, students investigate the turning points of the war, such as the Battle of Britain and D-Day, and reflect on the sacrifices and bravery of those involved.

Throughout the unit, students engage in a variety of interactive activities, including research, poster-making, and role-play, to deepen their understanding of this important moment in history.
